Police Investigate Clash Between Eyisam and Mankessim Youth at Shell Fuel Station

Police in Mankessim are investigating a clash involving some youth from Ekumfi Eyisam and Mankessim, which occurred at a Shell fuel station in Mankessim on Saturday, January 3, 2026.

According to police, a distress call was received at about 7:20 p.m. indicating that a fight had broken out at the fuel station. The Mankessim night patrol team was immediately dispatched to the scene.

Upon arrival, the patrol team observed groups of youth pelting stones at each other. The suspects fled the area on sighting the police, making it impossible for officers to effect any arrests despite a pursuit and subsequent combing of the area.

Preliminary investigations revealed that earlier in the day, at about 2:00 p.m., some youth from Ekumfi Eyisam had attended a wedding in Mankessim. During the event, they received information that one of their colleagues had been attacked and beaten at the Accra lorry station in Mankessim while attempting to board a vehicle to Eyisam.

Following this, the Eyisam youth reportedly moved to the Accra lorry station after the wedding, in search of the alleged attacker. One person was identified to them as the suspect, who fled into a nearby food outlet popularly known as “Chicken Man,” close to the Shell fuel station. In the course of the chase, one of the shop’s glass doors was damaged before the Eyisam youth retreated.

Subsequently, some Mankessim youth mobilised to the area, leading to a confrontation between the two groups, during which stones were hurled. The situation dispersed when police arrived.

The injured victim, identified as Wisdom, was rushed to the Cape Coast Teaching Hospital (CCTH) and is responding to treatment.

Police say calm has since been restored, and the area was monitored throughout the night. Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
