The Central East Regional Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) has intensified enforcement of road traffic regulations, leading to the arrest of 19 motorists for various traffic offences during a special operation in the Central Region.
The exercise targeted the unauthorised use of sirens, strip lights, unapproved vehicle lamps, and the dangerous practice of driving on road shoulders and verges.

The operation was carried out at the Krispo City Traffic Light on the Kasoa–Winneba Highway and at the Kasoa New Market on the Kasoa–Bawjiase Road.
According to the Police, 19 drivers were arrested for violating road traffic regulations. The offences included three cases involving the illegal use of sirens and strip lights, ten cases involving unapproved vehicle lighting systems, and six cases of driving on road shoulders.

Police said the offending drivers were educated on the relevant traffic regulations, cautioned, and warned against future violations.
All unauthorised sirens, strip lights, and unapproved lamps found during the operation were removed, confiscated, and retained by the Police for further action.

The Central East Regional Police Command says the exercise forms part of ongoing efforts to improve road safety, enhance discipline among motorists, and reduce the risk of accidents on major highways.

The Command has urged all road users to comply with traffic regulations and avoid practices that endanger the lives of other motorists, pedestrians, and passengers.
