Police Arrest Female Drug Dealer at Checkpoint with Large Quantity of Suspected Narcotics

Police officers on duty at the Tinking Police checkpoint on the Koforidua–Mamfe Highway in the Eastern Region have arrested a woman for allegedly trafficking a large quantity of substances suspected to be narcotic drugs, believed to be cannabis.

The suspect was onboard a Toyota Voxy commercial vehicle travelling from Koforidua to Accra on the afternoon of Tuesday, February 3, 2026, when the vehicle was stopped at the checkpoint during routine police checks.

Officers at the barrier, comprising three males and two females, conducted a thorough search of the vehicle and the passengers’ luggage. During the inspection, they discovered an Ecolac bag placed at the back of the vehicle.

Upon opening the bag, police found large quantities of wrapped substances suspected to be narcotics, concealed beneath clothing.

The woman was identified as the owner of the bag and was immediately arrested. She reportedly admitted ownership of both the bag and its contents and allegedly confessed to engaging in drug peddling as a means of livelihood.

Eastern Regional correspondent of the EIB Network, Kojo Ansah, who witnessed the arrest while en route to Mamfe, reported that the suspect and the seized exhibits have been taken to the Eastern Regional Police Headquarters to assist with ongoing investigations.

Police say further investigations are underway.
