The woman who allegedly abandoned her four-day-old baby in a pigsty near the Zebilla market has been arrested by local police.
She was apprehended in Kuloko, a suburb of the Binduri District, following thorough investigations along with her elder sister as an accomplice.
During police interrogation, the suspect admitted to abandoning the baby, citing fear of family ridicule for having a child out of wedlock.

She further claimed that financial hardship and her inability to care for the newborn led to her actions after being discharged from the Zebilla Hospital postnatal ward.
A close family member revealed that they had been monitoring the suspect during her pregnancy due to troubling remarks she had made in the past after an attempt to abort the baby.
The suspect and her accomplice had reportedly told the family that the baby had died at birth and was buried with the assistance of hospital authorities.

On Friday, March 28, this portal reported that a woman, Gifty Ayine, discovered and rescued the baby while attending to her store near the Zebilla market square.
The suspects are currently in police custody, awaiting further legal proceedings.
