Man Arrested with 3,500 Rounds of Ammunition on Assin Fosu Highway

The Central Regional Police Command has arrested a man for allegedly possessing 3,500 rounds of ammunition without lawful authority during an intelligence-led operation along the Assin Fosu Highway.

The suspect, identified as Francis Ampomah, was arrested on May 27, 2026, at about 12:30 a.m. at the Green Field Plantation snap-check point.

According to police, officers intercepted a Voxy vehicle with registration number GT 9748-26, which was being driven by the suspect from Accra towards Assin Fosu.

A search conducted on the vehicle reportedly uncovered 14 yellow and brown boxes containing shotgun ammunition.

Police say each box contained 25 cartridges, bringing the total number of ammunition retrieved to 3,500 rounds.

The suspect was immediately arrested and is currently in police custody, assisting with investigations.

The Voxy vehicle used in the operation has also been impounded by police.

The Central Regional Police Command says investigations into the case are ongoing.
