Loan Recovery Turns Violent: Four Microfinance Officials Arrested Over Alleged Assault at Ashongman Estate

Police have arrested four officials of a microfinance company over the alleged assault of a woman during a loan repayment dispute at Ashongman Estate.

The arrests were made by officers from the Kwabenya District Police Command as part of investigations into the incident.

According to the Ghana Police Service, the case was reported on March 13, 2026, by Hagar Emaser, 42, who alleged that four officials from Bill’s Microfinance visited her residence to demand repayment of a loan she had taken from the company.

She claimed the officials assaulted her during the confrontation.

Following the complaint, police launched investigations and on March 14, 2026, arrested four suspects identified as:

  • Denis Wornyo, 38
  • Albert Amarh, 40
  • Ebenezer Amartei, 23
  • Atsu Lawson, 27

Police say caution statements have been obtained from all four suspects, who are currently in custody, assisting with investigations.

The Accra Regional Police Command has urged victims of assault and other criminal acts to promptly report such incidents to the police to enable swift investigation and action.

Authorities also advised individuals and institutions involved in loan transactions or other civil disputes to resolve their grievances through lawful and peaceful means.
