Ghanaian boxing fans braved the early morning drizzle on Saturday to witness Jacob ‘The Beast’ Dickson, former National Cruiserweight Champion, dismantle Ernest Akushey, popularly known as ‘Baubali,’ in a much-anticipated bout dubbed Monaco: The Night to Prove at the Bukom Boxing Arena.
The fight, heavily hyped in boxing hotbeds like Gbese, Bukom, and Chorkor, lived up to expectations, with both fighters giving a spirited performance that kept fans on their feet.
Referee Erasmus Owoo, stepped in to save Baubali from further damage in the dying minutes of round eight for a convincing technical knockout win for the Beast.
The undercards, dominated by Bronx Boxing Club, were equally electrifying. Hafiz Damba, Abubakar ‘Ambitious Tilapia‘ Kamoko, and Solomon Sampson are all impressive. John ‘Expensive’ Laryea and Daniel Selasi ‘The Emperor‘ Gorsh recorded emphatic knockout victories, while prison officer Musah Rahman Lawson, aka Senior Awodade, dug deep to edge Patrick Cudjoe of Wisdom Boxing Gym for the National Super Welterweight title.
Kevin Abraham Carter of Fit Trip Gym showcased power and skill with a knockout win, while Joseph Sackey thrilled supporters, including his church members and family, with a victory of his own.
In total, 13 bouts, including amateur and juvenile contests, delivered an action-packed night, spiced with entertainment from Awel One Rasta, Tinku, and the Sexy Ladies, who kept the crowd buzzing between fights.
Promoter Lord Eddie Coleman of SEM Promotions received praise for putting together a lively event, though critics urged improvements in time management, strategic planning, and corporate sponsorship to elevate the shows to the standard of established promoters like Legacy Rise Sports, Bishop Promotions, and Box Office.
The Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA) was commended for enforcing strict protocols and maintaining effective yet friendly security, supported by the Military Police.
