The Fair Wages and Salaries Commission has paid tribute to the late Executive Secretary of the Civil and Local Government Staff Association of Ghana, CLOGSAG, Dr Isaac Bampoe Addo, describing his passing as a major loss to Ghana’s labour movement and public service.
Dr Bampoe Addo passed away on Friday, August 21, 2026.
In a tribute, the Chief Executive of the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission, Dr George Smith-Graham, said news of his death came as a shock, particularly because they had interacted with him only days earlier.
According to Dr Smith-Graham, the late CLOGSAG Executive Secretary had participated actively in a stakeholder engagement organised by the Commission on the proposed establishment of the Independent Public Emoluments Commission, IPEC.
The engagement, held at the Lancaster Hotel, brought together key stakeholders to discuss Ghana’s future public-sector compensation framework.
Dr Smith-Graham recalled that Dr Bampoe Addo was, as always, vibrant, articulate and deeply committed to issues affecting public servants.
“There was nothing about those moments that prepared us for the heartbreaking news that would follow,” he said.
He described the late labour leader as more than an Executive Secretary of CLOGSAG, but a formidable voice in Ghana’s labour relations landscape and a strong advocate for fairness and workers’ welfare.
Dr Smith-Graham noted that although their respective roles sometimes placed them on opposite sides of the negotiating table, their engagements were always characterised by mutual respect and a shared commitment to dialogue and the national interest.
The FWSC Chief Executive said Dr Bampoe Addo’s death represents a significant loss to CLOGSAG, Organised Labour, the public service and Ghana’s social partnership community.
He extended condolences, on behalf of the Board, Management and Staff of the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission, to the family of the late labour leader, the leadership and membership of CLOGSAG, Organised Labour and all who worked with him.
As Ghana continues discussions on the establishment of the Independent Public Emoluments Commission, Dr Smith-Graham says the contributions of Dr Isaac Bampoe Addo during what turned out to be his final engagement with the Commission will remain part of that national conversation.
“You served. You advocated. You contributed.”
