Fake Doctor Arrested for Impersonation and Fraud

The Ghana Police Service has arrested a man for impersonating a medical doctor and defrauding unsuspecting individuals under the guise of securing international travel opportunities.

The suspect, identified as Fredrick Papa Kow-Assifuah, was apprehended on Thursday, June 6, 2025, during an intelligence-led operation by personnel from the Police Intelligence Directorate (PID) at Kasoa Crispo City in the Central Region.

At the time of his arrest, Kow-Assifuah was dressed in a white lab coat with a stethoscope around his neck and had arranged to meet a potential victim he had previously lured online.

Medical Items Recovered

A search conducted at the scene uncovered several medical supplies in the suspect’s possession, including:

  • 2 stethoscopes
  • 3 intravenous (IV) drips
  • 5 syringes
  • 2 sample bottles
  • 1 roll of plaster
  • 6 bottles of vaccines
  • 1 Ghanaian passport
  • Cash amounting to ¢8,500.00

Modus Operandi

During police interrogation, the suspect admitted to impersonating a doctor at the United Brain Hospital in Mallam, Accra. He also confessed to targeting women online, initiating intimate relationships, and fraudulently collecting money from them under the pretence of arranging travel to Europe.

Legal Action

Fredrick Papa Kow-Assifuah is currently in police custody, assisting with investigations. He will be arraigned before a court in the coming days.

The Ghana Police Service continues to urge the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to help clamp down on such criminal enterprises.
