Daniel Asiedu, the man charged with the death of New Patriotic Party’s Abuakwa North late Member of Parliament (MP), Joseph Boakye Danquah Adu, has said the wife and mother of the late MP have more information about his death and not him.
Asiedu, also said claims by both the Prosecution and the Police investigators that, he killed the MP “cannot be true.”
He wondered why the wife of the late MP, her mother and children who were all present in the house on that fateful day when the incident happened on February 8, 2016, were not invited to assist the court.
Asiedu, who made this known to the seven-member jury panel and the High Court in Accra, presided over by Justice Lydia Osei Marfo, on Tuesday, November 12, 2024, said, “Some big people have connived to implicate me,” but he is innocent.
“My lady, just like I have already told this court, I still stand by my defence that all the police said in this court is not true.
“And that, those who were living in the house that is the wife of the deceased, her mother and the children never mentioned in this court that they saw me,” Asiedu pointed out to the Court.
He explained that it “was why none of them was brought before this court to testify.”
I don’t know JB Danquah
He told the Court that, the investigator’s claims in court that his foot and fingerprints were found at the late MP’s residence cannot be true.
“My lady, what I have to say is that all that Mr (Augustus) Nkrumah (the Investigator) testified in this court is not true.
“The truth is that I, Daniel Asiedu, if not for the picture of JB Danquah that they showed me, I have not seen him (JB Danquah) before.
He explained, “What I have relied on in this court is that I have never been to the house (JB Danquah) before.”
Asiedu said, “If not for the day, I was wounded on my head and I was led with a gun to the said house, I have never been there.”
On the issue of him using a knife to stab the MP to death said “About the matter of the knife, “it is not true.”
He added, “If not for the day I went to meet the prostitute or sex worker and also went to the police station to report that thieves had attacked the said lady, I have never met or seen that lady before.”
“If it were true that the said lady was my wife, they would have brought her before this court to testify but because it is not true that she is my wife, that was why she was not brought before this court to testify.
“What they (Prosecution and Police) are saying is not true,” he said, adding, “I still stand by my defence that I have never been to the deceased house. Therefore my finger and footprint can never be found there.”
Where are the 3 Officer’s who first
It was his case also that, “no witness has been called from the house (of the late MP) to give evidence that they saw me from the house.”
And that, “Not even the police officers (Augustus) Nkrumah (the Investigator) claimed came to the house, was unable to provide their names and was unable to bring any of them to testify.”
Responding to claims by the police and the prosecution that “you (Asiedu) are the one and the only one who caused the violent death of JB Danquah,” Asiedu maintained his innocence.
I’m Gucci Young Star, not Sexy Don Don
Asked by his counsel, Yaw Dankwah why he is being referred to as ‘Sexy Don Don’, Asiedu said that is not his nickname but Dampare, (the now Inspector General of Police formerly Greater Accra Regional Police Commander) gave him that name.
“It was Dampare who gave me that name. My name is Daniel Asiedu and that is the name I have used throughout my education my nickname is Gucci Young stare. Sexy Don Don is not my name. That is why I don’t have ‘sexy don don’ on my body as a Tattoo like the ‘Gucci Young Star.’
Big people connived to implicate me
Asked by his counsel to assist the court and the jury with the full facts of the case in determining the matter, he said, he never killed the MP.
“All the charges levelled against me are not true,” adding that, “I, Daniel Asiedu have no issues with anybody neither has anybody wronged me for me to take a knife to harm the person.
“I walk freely because I have no issues with anybody. When the incident happened, I heard the wife had wanted to give evidence in respect of the big people who are after the life of her husband because they wanted to implicate me, but they failed to allow her to reveal that information.
“The big people have connived with their cohorts to implicate me in the whole saga. I do not know anything about the death of JB Danquah.
“And looking at the photograph that was shown to me if he kicked me I would be (falling) somewhere. I have not been to the house and I do not know anything about his death,” Asiedu said.
EIB Network’s Legal Affairs Correspondent, Murtala Inusah reports that Asiedu who will not be calling any witnesses, has closed his evidence-in-Chief and is under cross-examination from the prosecution.
Sitting continues on November 14, 2024.
