The leadership of the New Patriotic party in the Bawku central constituency have expressed disappointment in the government’s handling of the Bawku chieftaincy dispute.
The group have however, appealed to the feuding factions to lay down their arms and seek dialogue and other appropriate channels to address the impasse.
The NPP group made up of all the constituency executives, polling station executives and electoral area coordinators condemned the continuous unrest in the Bawku municipality, and regretted that the age-long chieftaincy dispute is not seeing any end in sight.
The group partially blame successive governments especially the Akuffo Addo-led administration for not doing much to resolve the impasse.
The NPP executives say the increasing tension in the area is making the party unpopular not only in the Bawku central but the upper east region as a whole.
Communication officer, Nurudeen Gumah, said members of the party are of different tribes within the traditional area hence any attempt to encourage or promote divisive tribalism and chieftaincy are major disservice to the party.
The group further asserted that since the conflict reignited in November 2021, a number of people from different tribes other those engaged in the conflict- Kusasis and Mamprusis were killed yet the leadership of the party both regional and national level did not respond on that issue.
The group appealed to president Akuffo Addo to act now to end the Bawku crisis to avert more killings since every vote counts in an election.
