Many peace loving personalities have mounted calls on the government to throw every security arsenals to Bawku without any further delay in a bid to prevent imminent blood shed.
These calls followed the surprise enskinment of a rival Bawku Naba in the early hours of Wednesday February 15.
The overload and king of the Mamprugu Traditional Area, Naa Bohugu Mahami Abdulai Sherigah II, reportedly conducted the enskinment of the new Bawku chief at the Nayiri palace in Nalerigu.
the new chief is called Alhaji Seidu Abagre according to sources,who said there was jubilations are all over at the forecourt of the Nayiri palace in Nalerigu, the North East Regional capital, as well as the traditional city of Mamprugu.
Meanwhile, security, mainly soldiers our source say is beefed up at the Nayiri Palace to ensure peace in and around the area.
By tradition, the new chief, Alhaji Seidu Abagre, is expected to be accompanied by some elders from the Nayiri Palace to Bawku after all the traditional rituals and activities are done in Nalerigu.
There have however, heightened tension in Bawku following news about the enskinment in Nalerugu by the Nayiri.
Reports say there were renewed sporadic gunshots in the outskirts of the Bawku township.
At least seventeen people have been killed and more than 10 injured in fresh shootings in Bawku since Wednesday, February 1, 2023.
The Bawku the chieftaincy conflict reignited on November 24, 2021 following a purported plans to observe the final funeral rights for the last Mamprusi king in Bawku.
Hundred of people have been reportedly killed in since then, others maimed while health, education and all other businesses activities have collapsed.
The Overlord of the Mamprugu Traditional Area, Naa Bohagu Abdulai Mahama Sheriga ll, in March last year, pledged to find a lasting peace to the protracted Bawku Chieftaincy dispute which has eliminated many lives following the disturbances in the area.
