More than 300 school-age children in the Bagabaga enclave of the East Gonja municipality who were previously unable to attend school can now do so.
This comes after the member of parliament for Salaga south, Hajia Zuweira Ibrahima, has handed over a six-unit classroom block with additional ancillary facilities such as an office for staff, a storeroom, and restrooms to the authorities.
The project was a personal promise made by the MP to the residents of Bagabaga, Kakoshie, Kokolombo, Techipe, and other nearby communities prior to the 2020 general elections.
Through the generosity of Patrick Hicks and the Wulugu Project, the MP was able to secure funding for the project in 2022.
The former president Mahama and the member of parliament visited the Bagabaga neighborhood to commission the project.
Hajia Zuweira Ibrahima reaffirmed her commitment to enhancing education in the Municipality during a brief ceremony to hand over the facility to the East Gonja Municipal Education Directorate.
According to her teachers recruited to the new school would draw their monthly salaries from the MP’s office until such time that the ghana education service will regularize their salary payment structure.
She pleaded with the project beneficiaries to maintain it well for posterity.
The assembly member for the Bau electoral area, Adams Kawurbi, praised the lawmaker for his action, promising to spearhead a campaign to maintain the facility.
