A level 300 visually impaired social works student of the university of Ghana, has gained scholarship from the Ayawaso central municipal assembly to enable her complete her course.
Benedicta Bantriba, was straggling to meet her academic needs as her single mother’s efforts have come to the witsend.
Benedicta was a normal girls going through life when she was suddenly struck by a strange disease in the second year in senior high school.
Going through the daily academic activities in class one fateful morning when she realized visibility was poor around her.
Her initial thought was it was about to rain but that was dispelled by her peers and teacher.
Benedicta had to drop out of school in search for cure and later ended up at the blind school.
With support from her single mum, Benedicta returned to the senior high school to sit for the West Africa Senior Secondary Certificate examination, WASSCE, after learning the brail at the blind school.
She gained admission into the university of Ghana to study social works aiming to major as a clinical social worker.
Benedicta continue to rely on her single mother’s support until her application for support to continue her education was given a favourable response by the Ayawaso central municipal assembly.
Benedicta was among 42 persons with disability approved for the district assembly common fund disbursement this year out of 48 shortlisted and registered from an initial 60 applications.
To Benedicta, the assembly’s intervention was a timely one as she had come to the cross road of her dreams.
She admonished the youth to persevere irrespective of the odds against.
