The Executive Director of the Jatikay Centre for Human Security and Peace Building, Adib Saani, has called for heightened security measures over the ongoing dispute surrounding the funeral arrangements of the late Apostle Professor Kwadwo Safo.
In a statement, Adib Saani said the disagreement has evolved beyond a family matter into a potential public safety issue that requires urgent attention from the security agencies.
He noted that recent developments, including an earlier shooting incident, pending court proceedings, and conflicting positions taken by the parties involved, have heightened tensions and created a volatile situation.
According to him, reports that one side intends to rely on the courts while the other plans to proceed with the funeral arrangements underscore the risk of confrontation, particularly if supporters of both sides converge.
The Executive Director of Jatikay Centre for Human Security and Peace Building urged all parties to exercise restraint and place the dignity of the late Apostle Kwadwo Safo, as well as public safety, above all other interests.
He also called on the Ghana Police Service and other state institutions to undertake a comprehensive security risk assessment and maintain a strong but impartial security presence throughout all funeral-related activities.
He recommended intelligence-led policing, early engagement with stakeholders, effective crowd management, and strict enforcement of any lawful court directives to prevent any breach of the peace.
Adib Saani further advised security agencies to closely monitor developments and respond proactively to emerging threats, stressing that preventive action is preferable to managing violence after it occurs.
He concluded by urging all parties to resolve disagreements over succession, funeral arrangements, and estate matters through lawful and peaceful means, saying the greatest tribute to the late Apostle Professor Kwadwo Safo would be a funeral marked by dignity, unity, and peace rather than conflict.
