The Eastern Regional Police Command, in a joint operation with the Military and National Security, has arrested eleven suspects and retrieved weapons in connection with the escalating chieftaincy dispute at Adambrobe near Aburi in the Akuapem South Municipality.
The arrests followed intelligence-led operations carried out on Sunday, May 3, 2026, by the Aburi District Police Command, with reinforcement support on Monday, May 4, leading to one additional arrest.

Among those arrested are Dawu Joseph, Evans Dekadzor, Kwame Aboagye, Christian Atsu, Samuel Annan, Thomas Davidson, Abusuapanyin Owusu Paul, Richard Agyekum, Jerry Johnson Kwame Atilla, and Samuel Obeng.
The eleventh suspect, Douglas Amoako Danquah, was picked up after he was seen being carried shoulder-high in a procession within the town, an indication he had also been enstooled as chief.
Addressing the media, Deputy Eastern Regional Police Commander Richard Appiah disclosed that a search conducted during the operation led to the retrieval of five unregistered pump-action rifles, 23 live cartridges, a taser, six mobile phones, and a piece of body armour.

Two vehicles—an unregistered Ford pickup and a Toyota Corolla with registration number GE 2560-19—were also impounded.
Police further revealed that some of the suspects were dressed in Ghana Immigration Service camouflage uniforms at the time of their arrest.
All eleven suspects are currently in police custody assisting investigations and are expected to be arraigned before court.
Background to the Dispute
The Adambrobe chieftaincy dispute stems from internal disagreements within the royal family over who is the legitimate occupant of the stool.

Notably, popular Ghanaian actor Mikki Osei Berko—widely known as Master Richard or Dada Boat—was installed as chief on April 24, 2026, taking the stool name Nana Osei Boakye Yiadom II.
However, a rival faction attempted to enstool Douglas Amoako Danquah on Monday, further escalating tensions in the community.
Police say a restraining order had been secured to halt all enlistment activities, but both factions defied the directive.
Authorities confirm that Mikki Osei Berko and others involved in his enstoolment are already before a court in Akropong.
Police Assurance
The Eastern Regional Police Command has assured residents of its commitment to maintaining peace and stability and has urged all parties to exercise restraint and avoid acts that could further inflame tensions.
