The Ghana Police Service says it has arrested seven suspects connected to a robbery syndicate linked to a series of attacks in Accra, Tema, Anyinam, Kumasi, and Takoradi, where victims were allegedly robbed of cash, gold, and mercury.
The arrests were carried out through intelligence-led operations coordinated by the Office of the Special Operations Assistant to the Inspector-General of Police.

According to police investigations, the case began after an Ivorian investor, Mousa Bamba, reported that he had been lured to Dzorwulu under the pretext of purchasing six kilograms of gold valued at 450,000 US dollars.

Police say the suspects allegedly posed as CID officers and military personnel, robbed the investor at gunpoint, and fled the scene.
Initial investigations led to the arrest of Mohammed Umaro alias Alhaji and Gabriel Sewornu alias Dangote.

Further investigations implicated two military officers—Lance Corporal Eugene Akurugu and Lance Corporal Emmanuel Arko alias Bullet—as well as three police officers identified as Inspector Richmond Osei, Corporal Gideon Anor, and Lance Corporal Felix Deku Tetteyga.
The Police Service says the implicated officers have since been interdicted to allow for investigations.

Additional intelligence-led operations conducted on May 23 and 24, 2026, also led to the arrest of Justin Oduro alias Don King alias Mafia, Clement Gyasi, and Farouk Zakari.
All suspects are currently in police custody assisting with investigations, while efforts are ongoing to arrest other accomplices believed to be connected to the syndicate.

The Police Service has assured the public of its commitment to dismantling organised criminal networks and bringing all persons involved to justice.
