Tragic Accident at UCC: Student Dies After Bus Collision

A University of Cape Coast student has lost his life after being struck by a Scania Macopolo bus near the UCC campus. The incident has left the university community in shock, highlighting concerns about road safety around the campus.

On the evening of 5th March 2026, around 5:00 p.m., a fatal accident occurred on the University of Cape Coast campus.

Kwaku Mensah, a 22-year-old Level 200 student, was riding as a pillion passenger on a motorbike when a Scania Macopolo bus, registration GS 5170-18, driven by 46-year-old Amos Agyei, struck him.

The impact caused the young student to fall onto the road, sustaining severe injuries. He was rushed to the Cape Coast University Hospital, but tragically, the medical team pronounced him dead on arrival.

Police responded to the scene and secured the bus before clearing it to restore traffic flow. The victim’s body has been deposited at the hospital morgue pending autopsy.

Authorities have confirmed that the case is currently under investigation as they work to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the fatal collision.

The incident has raised renewed concerns about road safety around university campuses and the urgent need for preventive measures to protect students and pedestrians.
