Smugglers Bolt at Dambai Barrier as Police Intercept ‘Tom Winter’ Truck Laden with Suspected Marijuana

A routine police operation at the Dambai police barrier took a dramatic turn after officers intercepted a long trailer truck suspected of smuggling large quantities of marijuana.

The truck, bearing the inscription “Tom Winter” and registration number GW 1943-09, was stopped by officers on duty during a routine security check.

Personnel at the barrier—including Lance Corporal Kwame Boateng, Corporal Emmanuel Adjei, and Lance Corporal Iddi Baba—were seen interrogating the driver and his mate when their suspicion was raised.

According to observations by the Ghana News Agency, the officers discovered dry leaves believed to be marijuana, neatly arranged in parcels and concealed within the frame of the vehicle, with empty containers stacked on top in an apparent attempt to evade detection.

In a shocking twist, the driver abandoned the truck and fled the scene upon the discovery. His associate, however, was arrested and is currently in police custody to assist with investigations.

The truck has since been impounded and left at the Dambai police barrier, as police intensify efforts to track down the fleeing suspect and determine the source and intended destination of the suspected narcotics.

The incident underscores the continued vigilance of law enforcement agencies in the fight against drug trafficking and organised crime across the country.

Police authorities are yet to issue an official statement on the interception, as investigations remain ongoing.
