Police Arrest Suspect Over Suspected Counterfeit Foreign Currency and Unauthorised Firearm at Ablekuma

The Ghana Police Service, through its National Operations Directorate Surveillance Unit, has arrested a suspect for allegedly possessing suspected counterfeit foreign currency and an unauthorised firearm at Ablekuma in the Greater Accra Region.

The suspect, identified as Josiah Elorm Kwame Amezado, was arrested following intelligence reports suggesting that a self-styled fetish priest in the area was involved in criminal activities and in possession of a firearm, posing a potential threat to residents.

A search conducted in the suspect’s room led to the retrieval of quantities of US dollar notes in one-hundred-dollar denominations suspected to be counterfeit, a pair of handcuffs, a black vest, a Kuzey A100 blank pistol, and fifty-eight rounds of 9mm blank ammunition.

The suspect is currently in police custody, while investigations continue to establish the source and authenticity of the currency, as well as the circumstances surrounding the possession of the firearm and other items.
