A 21-year-old fisherman, Michael Dodoo, popularly known as Akufo Addo, has been remanded into police custody by the Dansoman Circuit Court for allegedly stealing items and cash worth ¢50,800 from a parked vehicle at Accra Central.

Dodoo, who pleaded not guilty to charges of conspiracy to commit crime, unlawful entry, and stealing, appeared before Halimah El-Alawa Abdul-Bassit on Thursday. He is expected to reappear in court on October 20, 2025.

According to the prosecution, led by Chief Inspector Christopher Wonder, Dodoo and three accomplices — identified only as Prince, Amuquaye, and Sadiku (all currently at large) — conspired to steal from a vehicle belonging to Seidu Mohammed, a businessman from Koforidua, on September 20, 2025.

The court heard that Mohammed had parked his Opel vehicle in front of the UBA Bank at Accra Central and left it unlocked while he crossed the road to buy tea. Inside the car was a bag containing two Tecno mobile phones valued at ¢3,500 and cash of ¢50,800. The suspects allegedly opened the vehicle and made away with the bag and its contents.

Police, acting on intelligence, later arrested Dodoo, who was found with the two Tecno phones identified by the complainant as his. During interrogation, Dodoo reportedly admitted his involvement in the theft but claimed a disagreement arose during the sharing of the stolen money, after which one accomplice allegedly kept the cash.

Police say efforts are underway to arrest the three accomplices, Prince, Amuquaye, and Sadiku, as investigations continue.
