The Ghana Police Service has launched investigations into the interception of a Kia truck loaded with 36 bags of suspected Indian hemp at Sekesua Road in the Eastern Region.

According to police, the incident occurred on September 30, 2025, when officers from the Eastern Regional Police Headquarters, Koforidua, stopped a truck with registration number ER-760-23.

A search revealed that the vehicle, which was partly filled with sawdust, had 36 sacks of dried substances suspected to be narcotics concealed inside.

The vehicle and its contents were later conveyed to the Sekesua Police Station, but the driver and his mate managed to escape custody, abandoning the truck. Police say a manhunt is underway to re-arrest them.

The impounded truck and the seized substances are currently being held at the Eastern Regional Command. Police have urged the public to disregard reports suggesting that the sacks “turned into sawdust,” describing such claims as false and misleading.

Meanwhile, the Police Professional Standards Bureau (PPSB) has begun a probe into the incident, even as efforts continue to track down the fugitives.
