Two Police Officers Injured in Kukurantumi Youth Clashes over Suspect’s Death

1 Min Read

Two police officers have been treated and discharged from the Kukurantumi Community Hospital in the Eastern Region after sustaining injuries during violent clashes with angry youth following the death of a suspect in police custody.

The unrest erupted after the death of Bright, a suspect who had been arrested during a police swoop for allegedly possessing substances suspected to be Indian hemp. The youth accused a police officer, identified only as Kumador, of assaulting Bright during the arrest, claiming the beating led to his death.

Enraged by the incident, the youth stormed the Kukurantumi Police Station, demanding answers and accountability. In the chaos, the windshields of a Toyota Tundra (GP 4004) and the Toyota Hilux of the Eastern Regional Police Operations Commander were smashed.

Reports indicate that police officers on duty fled the station as the mob intensified their assault, forcing reinforcement teams from the Eastern Regional Police Counter-Terrorism Unit to intervene and restore order.
