Ashanti Police Probe after Vehicle Loaded with Firearms Intercepted

The Ashanti Regional Police Command has launched investigations after officers from the Kuntanase District Patrol Team intercepted a vehicle loaded with firearms and ammunition along the Aputuoagya–Bekwai road on Sunday, August 17, 2025.

According to police, two men were spotted beside a white Toyota Stenta, allegedly smoking a substance suspected to be narcotics. The suspects fled into a nearby bush upon noticing the approaching patrol team, abandoning the vehicle.

A subsequent search revealed an AK-47 assault rifle, a locally manufactured firearm, two AK-47 magazines loaded with 30 rounds each, four packets of ammunition, and seven loose rounds. Other items retrieved included cowrie shells, a pair of boots, sandals, a Huawei smartphone, and identity documents.

The vehicle has since been impounded, with all exhibits secured at the Kuntanase Police Station to aid ongoing investigations.

The Ashanti Regional Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Godwin Ahianyo, is urging members of the public with relevant information to assist by contacting the nearest police station or calling emergency lines 191, 18555, or 112.
