The leadership of the Igbo community in Ghana wishes to address and dispel recent misinformation circulating on social media regarding the alleged acquisition of 50 acres of land (approximately 250 plots) in Ningo, Greater Accra Region, for the purpose of establishing an “Igbo Village.”
The release state categorically and without reservation that no such land acquisition has taken place, either in Ningo or any other part of Ghana, for the purpose of creating an “Igbo Village.”
This misinformation appears to stem from an interview conducted in 2013 with Crystal TV, which followed the coronation of Eze Ohazurume I of Ndigbo in September 2012. In that interview, conceptual plans for an Igbo Village were discussed; however, those plans never materialized due to disputes regarding the rightful ownership of the land. The idea was officially abandoned in 2014, and no further steps were taken to revive or pursue it.
The Office of the Igbo Leadership in Ghana further clarifies that as it stands today, no land in Ghana has been acquired or earmarked for the establishment of such a project.
Eze Ohazurume I of Ndigbo, who has been a resident of Ghana since 1995 and is married to a Ghanaian businesswoman, has always demonstrated a deep respect for Ghana’s culture, people, and laws. Throughout his time in the country, he has remained committed to promoting peaceful coexistence and responsible citizenship among members of the Igbo community.
The office of the Igbo King strongly reject any insinuation that could undermine the cordial relationship between the Igbo people and the Ghanaian community. The Igbo leadership remains committed to building bridges, not barriers, and stands firmly against any actions or rhetoric that may suggest otherwise.
The statement reiterate, once again: that there is no current plan, intention, or land acquisition for an “Igbo Village” in Ghana.
