Police Caution Against Use of Live Ammunition During Lifting of Ban on Drumming and Noise Making

The Accra Regional Police Command has issued a strong caution to the public ahead of the official lifting of the customary ban on drumming and noise making, scheduled for Thursday, June 12, 2025, at Gbese Blohum and Abola within the Ga State.

The event traditionally includes musketry displays as part of the celebration. However, the Police have observed a disturbing trend in recent years, where some participants, particularly segments of the youth, have resorted to using live ammunition rather than the customary gunpowder or blanks.

In a joint message with the Gbese Mantse, the Police are urging all celebrants to avoid the use of live ammunition strictly. The Command emphasised that any individual caught engaging in such dangerous practices will be arrested and prosecuted under the law.

“We are committed to ensuring public safety. Let’s uphold the traditions without endangering lives,” the statement stressed.

The Police Command is working closely with traditional leaders and event organisers to maintain a peaceful and incident-free celebration. Police personnel will be deployed across key areas to provide security and assist with crowd control.

The public is encouraged to:

  • Adhere to all safety directives
  • Cooperate fully with law enforcement officers
  • Report any suspicious or unlawful activities via the Police emergency numbers 18555 or 112

The Accra Regional Police Command extends warm wishes to the people of Ga State as they mark this important cultural event and calls for responsible celebration in the spirit of peace, unity, and tradition.
