
The Western Central Regional Police Command has arrested thirteen individuals for engaging in illegal mining activities at Wassa Gyapa in the Western Region.
The suspects — identified as Nana Ampadu, Stephen Tetteh, Yaw Dalame, Samuel Amoah, Kwame Oppong, Francis Oduom, Owusu Asare, Atta Kwame, Apiyanga Emmanuel, Kojo Montanakito, Maxwell Owusu, Obofo Vincent, and Soogal Fataw — were apprehended on Sunday, 19th May 2025, during a coordinated anti-galamsey operation led by the Police.

As part of the operation, law enforcement officers destroyed more than 120 chanfang machines used for illegal mining and seized six motorbikes, which are being held as evidence.
The suspects are expected to be arraigned before the Tarkwa Circuit Court on Tuesday, 20th May 2025.

This latest enforcement action forms part of ongoing efforts by the Ghana Police Service to clamp down on illegal mining, protect natural resources, and hold offenders accountable. Authorities have reiterated their commitment to sustaining the fight against galamsey and urged the public to support the cause by reporting suspicious activities in their communities.
