The Volta Regional Police Command has recorded a breakthrough in its fight against drug trafficking following the interception of a vehicle transporting suspected narcotic substances along the Accra–Aflao road on Wednesday, January 21, 2026.

In a well-coordinated, intelligence-led operation, police intercepted a black Liberty Jeep with registration number FKE 92 KF near Kpolame, close to Sogakope. The driver, identified as Charles Adenkule, a 46-year-old Nigerian national, was arrested and is currently assisting with investigations.

A search conducted on the vehicle led to the recovery of ten (10) parcels of compressed substances suspected to be cocaine, each weighing approximately one kilogram. The estimated street value of the seized substances is ¢1,032,650.00. Police also found about half a kilogram of compressed dried leaves, suspected to be Indian hemp, concealed behind the inner lining of the vehicle’s boot.

The Regional Police Commander, DCOP Wisdom Akorli, who received the intelligence through the Director of the Police Intelligence Unit, deployed a joint team comprising personnel from the Police Intelligence Directorate (PID), Drug Law Enforcement Unit (DLEU), and the Motor Transport and Traffic Department (MTTD).
DCOP Akorli commended the officers involved for their professionalism, diligence, and integrity, particularly for refusing any attempt at an amicable settlement.

The seized exhibits are expected to be forwarded to the Forensic Laboratory for examination and analysis. The Volta Regional Police Command has reiterated its commitment to combating drug trafficking and other criminal activities and has encouraged the public to continue providing credible information to support policing efforts.
