
2nd August 2025 — The Upper East Regional Executive Committee of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) has taken sweeping disciplinary action against 16 out of 21 party officials, banning them from holding party positions over misconduct linked to the 2024 general elections.
According to an intercepted document signed by Regional Chairman Anthony Namoo and dated 1st August 2025, the measures follow a months-long investigation by the Regional Disciplinary Committee into allegations of anti-party behaviour, dishonesty, and mismanagement of party resources involving constituency executives, electoral area coordinators, and polling station officials in Pusiga and Tempane.
The disciplinary process began on 25th January 2025, when complaints were formally referred for investigation. The affected individuals were suspended on 20th February 2025, pending the committee’s findings. Hearings were conducted at the party’s Regional Secretariat in Bolgatanga between 22nd and 23rd March 2025, and the final report was submitted to the Regional Executive Committee on 20th June 2025.
After reviewing the committee’s recommendations, the Regional Executive Committee announced sanctions effective from 20th February 2025, including removals from office and bans ranging from 3 to 5 years.

Removed & banned from holding party positions for 5 years:
- Musah Awudu – Constituency 1st Vice Chairman
- Jacob Akazusah – Constituency Treasurer (also cited for misconduct in fund management and dishonesty)
- Jambeidu Ibrahim – Former Constituency Organizer
- Emmanuel Awinimi Atesiba – Constituency Communications Officer (Pusiga)
- Ayamba James Rahman – Electoral Area Coordinator, Bulpielsi
- Iddrisu Kadri Agoje – Constituency Deputy Nasara Coordinator
4-year ban:
- Agbango Jonathan Akugri – Electoral Area Coordinator, Basyonde/Sabzunde
3-year bans:
- Ayaaba Jacob Asaman – Former Constituency 1st Vice Chairman
- Awini Stephen Akparibo – Former Constituency Assistant Secretary
- Aladago Adams Sumaila alias “Nana” – Party member
- Simon Ayabugri – Former Electoral Area Coordinator for Gagbiri
- Azongo Stephen – Party member
- Alhassan Solomon Awini – Former Polling Station Secretary
- Edward Atule Akwaka – Polling Station Chairman (also removed for refusing to appear before the committee)
- Alhassan Abusang – Member, Constituency Council of Elders (also removed for refusing to appear)
Special sanction:
- Sawuda Bilgumsey – Constituency 2nd Vice Chairman; removed from office and banned until full repayment of defrauded amounts.
Cleared of all charges
- Ayamwaog Ibrahim – Youth Organizer, Nyosbara Polling Station
- Issifu Salifu – Former Electoral Area Coordinator, Woriyanga
- Abugbilla Tahiru – Party member
- Salifu Ibn Adams – Constituency Research & Elections Officer
- Haruna Salam – Constituency Assistant Secretary
The Regional Executive Committee has instructed the Constituency Executive Committees of Pusiga and Tempane to immediately replace the affected officers in line with the NPP’s constitution.
In the statement, Regional Chairman Anthony Namoo expressed appreciation to the Regional Disciplinary Committee for carrying out its mandate with professionalism and fairness, adding that the sanctions aim to uphold discipline and unity within the party.
All measures officially take effect from 20th February 2025.
