A tragic road crash along the Accra–Cape Coast–Takoradi highway has claimed the lives of a senior lecturer from the University of Cape Coast and another passenger after a truck veered into their lane while attempting to avoid a collision.
The deceased has been identified as Dr Agyemang Kwabena Koforobour, 69, a lecturer at the University of Cape Coast, and Peter Amoadu Asmah, who was travelling with him at the time of the crash.

Truck Loses Control After Sudden Maneuver
Police say the accident occurred at about 5:30 a.m. near the Afri China Mall on the main Accra–Cape Coast–Takoradi road.
According to preliminary investigations, Joseph Kwashie, 25, was driving a Howo articulated truck loaded with limestone from Tema toward Takoradi with three other occupants on board.
While approaching the area, an unidentified pickup vehicle reportedly overtook several vehicles from the Pedu direction, creating the risk of a head-on collision.
In an attempt to avoid crashing into the pickup vehicle, the truck driver lost control, veered into the opposite lane, and collided head-on with a Toyota Corolla saloon car travelling from University of Cape Coast toward Yamoransah.

Victims Trapped in Wreckage
The impact left the occupants of the saloon car severely injured and trapped inside the wreckage.
Personnel from the Ghana Police Service Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) and the Ghana National Fire Service rushed to the scene and carried out rescue operations to free the victims.
They were transported to the Cape Coast Teaching Hospital for emergency treatment but were pronounced dead on arrival by the attending medical officer.
The bodies have since been deposited at the hospital morgue for preservation and autopsy.

Truck Occupants Receiving Treatment
Police later confirmed that the truck driver, Joseph Kwashie, and three passengers, Tah Malaysia (22), Gladys Anthony (25), and Paul Ifanyi (17), sustained injuries and are currently receiving treatment at the emergency unit of the Cape Coast Teaching Hospital. They are reported to be in stable condition.

Police Hunt for Unknown Pickup Driver
Investigators are currently searching for the unidentified pickup driver whose dangerous overtaking manoeuvre is believed to have triggered the crash.
Police say the case remains under investigation as they work to determine the full circumstances surrounding the fatal collision.
