The Teachers and Educational Workers’ Union (TEWU) of the Trades Union Congress (TUC), Ghana, has suspended its indefinite strike, effective Wednesday, October 1, 2025, following a breakthrough in talks with the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC) and employer institutions.
The union, which declared the strike on September 19, 2025, was demanding the swift conclusion and signing of Conditions of Service agreements for its members, including workers in the Ghana Education Service, public and technical universities, the Ghana Museums and Monuments Board, and the Ghana Library Authority.
After a meeting on September 29, 2025, both parties agreed to resume negotiations on October 7, 2025, to finalize the outstanding issues.
In a statement signed by General Secretary King James Azortibah, TEWU directed members nationwide to return to work from Thursday, October 2, while those who travelled outside their duty stations are expected to report no later than Monday, October 6, 2025.
The union, however, stressed that the suspension of the strike is conditional. It warned that further industrial action could follow if the FWSC and employer institutions fail to honour their commitments.
TEWU also cautioned against any form of victimization of its members for participating in the strike, vowing to defend staff against unfair labour practices.
