Stolen from Students: Police Officer, School Matron, Sister Arrested in Wovenu SHS Food Diversion Scandal

Three persons—including a serving police officer and a senior staff member of Wovenu Senior High Technical School—have been arrested over the alleged diversion of food supplies meant for students of the school at Tadzewu in the Ketu North Municipality.

The suspects are Police Sergeant Bernard Amegbor, Doris Foli, an Assistant Matron of the school, and her sister, Perfect Foli. They were arrested at about 6:20 a.m. on Wednesday, February 11, 2026, following an early-morning interception by the Assembly Member for the area, Meli Atipoe, supported by vigilant community members.

The trio was allegedly caught while transporting assorted food items believed to have been taken from the school’s feeding stock. The items were being conveyed in a vehicle owned and driven by the police officer at the time of the arrest.

Food Meant for Students Allegedly Diverted

Items retrieved from the vehicle included bags of rice, cartons of milk and mackerel, tins of tomatoes and fish, gallons of Frytol cooking oil, and other essential provisions meant strictly for the feeding of students under the school’s feeding programme.

Initial information suggests the alleged diversion may not have been a one-off incident but part of a practice that had been ongoing for some time.

The suspects were first taken to the Tadzewu Police Station before being transferred to the Dzodze Police Station, where they are currently in custody assisting with investigations.

MCE Steps In, Warns Against Abuse of Public Resources

Confirming the incident, the Ketu North Municipal Chief Executive, Rev. Martin Amenaki, said he personally visited the Dzodze Police Station upon receiving the report to familiarize himself with the case and ensure that due process was being followed.

Rev. Amenaki assured the public that investigations would be thorough and impartial, stressing that anyone found culpable would face the full rigours of the law.

“Food supplies provided to schools are meant exclusively for the welfare and nourishment of students. Any attempt to divert or misappropriate these resources will not be tolerated,” he stated.

He added that the incident should serve as a strong warning to individuals seeking to undermine government interventions aimed at supporting students, noting that the Ketu North Municipal Assembly, working with the Mahama Administration, remains committed to protecting public resources and enforcing accountability at all levels.

Further updates are expected as investigations continue.
