Reprisal Killing Crackdown: IGP’s Special Intelligence Team Arrests Three in Deadly Gbiniyiri Attack

A joint operation by the Ghana Police Service Special Intelligence Team and the Savannah Regional Police Command has led to the arrest of three suspects in connection with a murder and violent reprisal attack at Gbiniyiri.

Police identified the suspects as Yaw Bamuah, Yaa Bokaa, and Kuma Simpor, who were arrested on March 14, 2026, following ongoing investigations into the deadly incident.

Suspect Confesses, Names Accomplices

According to investigators, during interrogation Yaw Bamuah admitted involvement in the attack and mentioned several accomplices believed to have participated in the operation.

The accomplices were identified as Anuda Borour, Pobiye, Bitunor Sansa, and James Sanyuah, who are currently being pursued by the police.

Retaliation Motive

Preliminary investigations indicate that the attack was allegedly carried out in retaliation for the killing of a relative of the suspects, who they believed had earlier been attacked by robbers suspected to be Fulani.

Police say the suspect subsequently led officers to his residence at Gbiniyiri, where a single-barrel shotgun with serial number BAT 2598-88 and two live AAA cartridges were retrieved from a concealed location within the compound.

Investigations Ongoing

The suspects are currently in police custody assisting with investigations and are expected to be arraigned before court.

Authorities say efforts have been intensified to track down the remaining suspects linked to the attack.

The Ghana Police Service has assured residents of the Savannah Region of its continued commitment to restoring calm and ensuring that all persons connected to the incident are brought to justice.
