Presidential Staffer Lord Commey Advocates for Boxing Funding (Video)

The director of operations at the presidency, Albert Lord Oblitey Commey, says state investment in boxing is critical to help transform the country.

According to him, 1 percent of the amount invested in football annually is enough to transform lives of young Ghanaians and the country through boxing, yet the fisticuffs sports is ignored in favour of football.

Speaking at ceremony in Accra where Premier motors presented toe Brand new Renault KWID to the winners of the best boxer and best gym awards in the just ended maiden De-luxy professional boxing league, he expressed dismay as to why the state and other supports are dedicated to football at the expense of boxing.

He recounted the honours won by boxing for the country and asked for the records of football and other sporting discipline, wondering why should football continue to reserve more attention.

According to him, making available 0.1 percent of state investment in football to boxing is enough to transform the lives of hundreds of Ghanaian youth and the country at large.

The presidential staffer therefore, tasked the leaderships of boxing (Ghana boxing authority, GBA, the Ghana boxing federation, GBF,) to effectively collaborate with the sports ministry and the minister, to ensure that resources are made available to boxing to fulfil the aspirations of the teaming talented youth and that of the country.

Albert Lord Oblitey Commey also chastised the media for not doing enough to promote the course of boxing in Ghana.

The presidential staffer tasked the and the sports minister in particular to and dedicate resources towards boxing development.
