Police Restore Calm at Gomoa Dominase After Fatal Demolition Clash; Six Arrested

The Central East Regional Police Command has restored calm at Gomoa Dominase in the Central Region following violent disturbances that broke out during a demolition exercise, which resulted in the tragic death of one person.

According to police reports, the incident occurred on Thursday, May 22, 2025, when the Gomoa East District Assembly embarked on a special operation around the onion market at Gomoa Dominase to demolish unauthorized structures. During the exercise, the operator of a grader machine accidentally ran over a resident, later identified as Razak Moro, who died at the scene.

In the aftermath of the fatal accident, an angry mob attacked the operator of the grader. Security personnel on the ground—including Police and Immigration officers—intervened to rescue him but were met with violence. The officers were pelted with stones and other objects, resulting in injuries to two Police officers and one Immigration officer.

The injured officers were transported to the Police Hospital in Accra, where they are receiving medical treatment. The body of the deceased has also been deposited at the Police Hospital mortuary for preservation and autopsy.

As part of the ongoing investigation, six individuals have been arrested in connection with the incident. The suspects—identified as Adams Suleman, Onukwei Ubombo, Augustine Agomgo, Michael Okyere, Zakaria Nliasu, and Rashid Mustapha—are currently in police custody assisting with inquiries.

The Central East Regional Police Command has assured the public of its continued commitment to maintaining peace and order in the region, while investigations continue into the events that led to the unrest.
