Police in the Northern Region have successfully rescued a kidnapping victim in Wapuli, following a targeted intelligence-led operation that also resulted in the arrest of three suspects and the recovery of cash believed to be part of a ransom payment.
According to a police briefing, the incident was first reported on December 2, 2025, at the Tamale Regional Police Intelligence Directorate (RPID), after the kidnappers demanded GH¢100,000 from the victim’s family as a condition for his release.

Rapid Police Response
Upon receiving the complaint, the Northern Regional Commander, DCOP Wisdom Lavoe, deployed a five-member intelligence team to Wapuli near Yendi to conduct surveillance, rescue the victim, and arrest the suspects.
Their efforts paid off on December 5, when the victim was safely rescued.
Gunfire Exchange and Escape
During a follow-up operation in the early hours of December 6, the suspects—believed to be four—were intercepted. A fierce exchange of gunfire ensued, during which the suspects fled, abandoning:
- A motorbike with registration M-25-NR
- A Samsung mobile phone
These items were retrieved and conveyed to the Yendi Divisional Headquarters as exhibits.
Arrests and Items Retrieved

Later on December 6, around 8:00 a.m., the Intel team tracked the suspects to Bokpaba, a village along the Bimbila–Yendi road, leading to the arrest of three individuals:
- Haruna Seidu, 31
- Amidu Bande, 30
- Osman Bande, 40
The suspects are currently detained at the Yendi Police Station and are expected to be transferred to the Regional Headquarters in Tamale on December 7, 2025.

- A bag containing ¢70,000, suspected to be a portion of the ransom paid before the rescue
- One Suspect Still at Large
Police say one suspect is on the run and may have sustained gunshot wounds during the exchange. He is believed to be armed and dangerous, and efforts are underway to track and arrest him.
The Police assure the public that further updates will be provided as investigations progress.
