Police Intercept over 1 Million Cedis Hidden in Fertilizer Bags at Juapong Checkpoint

The Volta Regional Police Command has intercepted more than 1 million cedis in cash concealed in fertiliser bags aboard a commercial vehicle at the Juapong Snap Checkpoint. the operation was carried out on Tuesday, June 3, 2025, at around 4:45 p.m.

According to a statement issued by DSP Felix Danku of the Public Affairs Unit, the officers acting on intelligence stopped a Ford Transit bus en route to the Ashanti Regional capital, Kumasi. A search of the vehicle uncovered 68 fertiliser bags stuffed with one-cedi notes and coins, amounting to 1,021,700 cedis.

During interrogation, the driver, Edward Ansah, claimed he had been contracted by an unknown individual in Kumasi to transport the money from Ho, the Volta Regional capital. He has since been arrested and is assisting police with further investigations.

Authorities say the intercepted funds are being held as evidence while efforts are underway to trace the origins of the cash and identify all parties involved.

The Volta Regional Police Command has assured the public of transparency in the investigation and pledged to provide further updates as the case develops.
