The Ghana Police Service says it has dismantled a suspected robbery gang linked to attacks on gold dealers, mining sites and communities across parts of the Western and Ashanti regions.
The Inspector General of Police, Christian Tetteh Yohuno, told the media in Accra that sustained intelligence-led operations conducted between August and 4 September 2026 led to the arrest of five suspects, while another suspect died during an operation.
Three AK-47 assault rifles, five magazines, 357 rounds of AK-47 ammunition and two vehicles were also recovered, according to the Police.
The suspects arrested include 33-year-old Clinton Mawuli, Richmond Mensah alias “Master Abey,” Daniel Sarfo alias “Abedi,” Prince Duker and another suspect.
Police say the deceased suspect, 40-year-old Seidu Salifu, was also linked to other robbery incidents around Sakam near Offinso and was standing trial at the Nsuta Circuit Court over an alleged gold bullion robbery at Offinso Abofour in July 2025.
The Police further say the gang operated across Wassa Akropong, Diaso, Dome, Abofour Camp and the Manso enclave, where gold dealers and mining communities have been targeted by suspected armed robbers.
In a related operation on 21 August 2026, the Western Regional Police Command arrested five suspects in connection with the alleged robbery and murder of 40-year-old gold buyer Seth Kobina at Agona Fie near Agona Nkwanta.
Those arrested include Christopher Seyiri alias “Cross and Die,” 47; Bashiru Ibrahim, 20; Thomas Odoom alias “Wale,” 30; and Isaac Quayeson alias “Last Burial,” along with another suspect.
Police say they recovered two locally manufactured pistols, five live BB cartridges, a metal bar and two cutlasses during the investigations.
Special police teams have since been deployed to the affected areas to strengthen security and protect residents, traders and other members of the mining communities.
The Police say investigations are continuing.
