The Independent Power Generators Ghana (IPGG) has lent its unflinching support to the newly passed 1-cedi Energy Sector Levy, describing it as a necessary measure.
In a press release signed by the IPGG’s Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Elikplim Kwabla Apetorgbor, it notes that the distress the sector faces now “affects power producers, fuel suppliers, and system reliability” which according to them is “a direct consequence of the mismanagement and misapplication of previously established Energy Sector Levy and bond proceeds and loans”.
The IPGG is therefore of the view that “this policy intervention is both necessary and time-sensitive, given the precarious financial state of the sector”.
