The Northern Regional Police Command has restored calm at Tamale Technical University following an unlawful student demonstration on Tuesday, September 16, 2025.

At about 9:00 a.m., intelligence indicated that some 500 students had massed up in front of the school’s administration block. A team led by Superintendent Richard Lantei Odartey was immediately deployed to maintain law and order.

Upon arrival, police observed that the protesting students had set vehicle tyres ablaze at the main entrance to the school (TAMASCO direction), in front of the Police Post (Kpalsi direction), and at the administration block. The students, upon seeing the police, became aggressive and began pelting stones.

Three students and three police officers sustained injuries during the disturbances and are currently receiving treatment at the hospital. No damage was recorded to school property or police facilities.

The police successfully brought the situation under control and restored calm to the campus. Meanwhile, a temporary security deployment remains on site to prevent a recurrence.
