Mob Lynching in Lashibi: Five Suspects Remanded Over the Death of Liberian It Specialist

For the family of a young man who had travelled to Ghana seeking opportunity and a better future, a tragic act of mob justice has ended that dream.

Twenty-four-year-old Austin Tengbeh, a Liberian national and Information Technology specialist, was lynched by a crowd at Sakumono-Lashibi, Accra, sparking renewed concerns about mob violence and the dangers of taking the law into one’s own hands.

Police say five suspects have now been arrested as investigators work to uncover what led to the fatal attack.

What began as a confrontation in a neighbourhood in Sakumono-Lashibi ended in tragedy for a young man whose life was cut short by mob violence.

The Ghana Police Service says its Homicide Unit has taken over investigations into the death of Austin Tengbeh, a 24-year-old Liberian national and Information Technology specialist who was fatally lynched on February 27.

According to police, officers from the Sakumono District Police initially arrested three suspects at the scene shortly after the incident.

They include Vincent Adzikah, Francis Amuzu, and William Anderson.

A fourth suspect, Enoch Mensah, allegedly went into hiding after the incident but was later arrested and remanded into custody.

Investigators also arrested Nana Agyenim Boateng, who police believe may have played a role in triggering the chain of events that led to the attack.

A post-mortem examination has been conducted after the body was formally identified by a relative, while a full autopsy report is expected following toxicology analysis.

All five suspects have been remanded in custody and are expected to reappear before the Baatsona District Court on March 16 as investigations continue.

The Ghana Police Service has strongly condemned the act, warning that mob justice remains a serious criminal offence.

Authorities are urging the public to report suspected criminal activity to the police rather than resorting to violence, as the family of Austin Tengbeh hope that justice will prevail.
