The Ashanti South Regional Police Command has arrested a man for unlawful possession of a foreign firearm and ammunition at the Tweapease Police Barrier near Obuasi in the Ashanti Region.

The suspect, Osman Abdul Majeed, was apprehended on 29th July 2025 during a routine vehicle inspection while travelling on board a Toyota minibus from Kumasi to Tarkwa. Upon searching his backpack, officers discovered an unregistered Bruni Model 92 pistol, loaded with three live 9mm rounds.

During initial interrogation, Majeed revealed that the weapon was handed to him in Tamale by a man identified only as Awal, who instructed him to deliver it to an unnamed recipient in Tarkwa. The suspect was unable to provide any legal documentation authorising the possession or transport of the firearm.

He is currently in police custody and will be arraigned before court as investigations continue. Authorities say efforts are underway to trace the origin of the weapon and arrest all individuals connected to the case.

The police command has reiterated its commitment to ensuring public safety and is urging the public to report any suspicious activities involving firearms.
