It’s a big fight weekend for Ghanaian boxer, Joseph Akai Nettey who flew out of the country last night en route to Tanzania where he squares up to local hero, Mchanja Yohana this Saturday, 10 August.

Young Nettey (9-1, 8 KOs) was accompanied by his trainer, Ernest Ofori for the international super flyweight 10-rounder set for the Mafia Arena in Dar-Es-Salaam, presented by Mafia Promotions.

It will be the first fight outside of Ghana for the former national light flyweight champion but it’s one his team maintains comes at the right time for the 22-year-old.

“Akai is ready to announce his potential to an international audience. The aim is to win a continental title then we can start knocking on the world stage so victory in Tanzania is a must,” said Nettey’s manager, Abdul Samadu Mohammed.

“He has prepared very well for this fight and we have no doubt he will secure the win. I trust Coach Ofori and the entire technical team back home to all be on deck to ensure we win, Insha Allah,” added Mr. Mohammed, immediate past Vice-President of the Ghana Boxing Federation (GBF).

Equally confident of walking away with the W in Dar-Es-Salaam come Saturday night is the boxer himself who reckons it’s a very decisive fixture in his pro career.

“I know it’s not going to be easy fighting in a foreign country with all the fans supporting my opponent but we have trained well and prepared for this. I am ready for anything he or the fans throw at me to get the win,” Joseph Akai Nettey said moments before boarding his flight at the Kotoka International Airport in Accra.

“My fans should keep me in their prayers for the tough battle ahead in Tanzania and I assure them we are getting the win. This is just the beginning, the world title is the main target and the journey starts now,” he added full of poise.
