Joint Security Team Engages Akyeode Chiefs in Nkwanta to Promote Peace after Killing

A Joint Security Team in Nkwanta has engaged chiefs and elders of the Akyeode community as part of efforts to maintain calm and strengthen peace following the recent killing of a resident in the area.

The engagement, held on May 31, 2026, was led by the Nkwanta Divisional Police Commander, Michael Asiedu.

The meeting followed the death of Richmond Benye Ayitey, which occurred on May 2, 2026, at Nkwanta in the Oti Region.

Present at the meeting were traditional leaders and representatives of the Akyeode community, including Nana Akola Obiako III, Nana Ompa Ogagya I, Okyeame Bandah, Okyeame Albert Yentumi, Okyeame Kwabena Mbenu, and Peter Lajor, who represented the youth of the community.

During the engagement, the security team conveyed condolences to the bereaved family and the entire Akyeode community.

The team also appealed to community leaders to maintain calm and discourage any acts of reprisal that could threaten peace and stability in the area.

Security officials further urged residents to cooperate fully with ongoing investigations and assured the community that efforts were actively underway to identify and arrest those responsible for the killing.

In response, Nana Ompa Ogagya I expressed appreciation to the security agencies for their swift intervention and pledged to work with community leaders to sensitise the youth on the need to uphold peace.

The body of the deceased, Richmond Benye Ayitey, has since been deposited at the St. Joseph Hospital morgue in Nkwanta for preservation and autopsy.

Authorities say the joint engagement reflects the shared commitment between security agencies and traditional leadership to preserve peace, security, and stability within the municipality.

Police say all leads connected to the case are being actively pursued to ensure the perpetrators are brought to justice.

The public has also been urged to remain calm, support ongoing investigations, and cooperate with security agencies in efforts to maintain lasting peace in Nkwanta.
