Hon. Agbodza Backs Local Contractors After Touring ‘Big Push’ Road Projects in Accra

The Minister for Roads and Highways, Kwame Governs Agbodza, has praised local contractors for delivering quality work on major road projects under the government’s Big Push infrastructure programme.

During a tour of project sites across the Greater Accra Region, the Minister inspected ongoing works and engaged engineers and project leads to assess progress.

He observed that the speed, workmanship, and technical expertise demonstrated by local contractors reflect a growing capacity within Ghana’s construction sector.

“The performance we are seeing shows clearly that Ghanaian contractors can deliver major infrastructure projects to standard.”

The Minister stressed that with the right investment, policy support, and timely financing, local firms can take the lead in addressing not only Ghana’s infrastructure deficit but also broader challenges across Africa.

“If properly resourced and encouraged, our local entrepreneurs can solve Ghana’s development needs.”

Project leads on site also welcomed the recognition, noting that local contractors have long possessed the technical know-how but often lack consistent support.

“We have the capacity. What we need is opportunity, trust, and sustained investment.”

The Big Push initiative forms part of the government’s broader strategy to accelerate infrastructure delivery, improve road networks, and stimulate economic growth.

The Ministry says increased local participation will remain central to achieving these goals, while strengthening Ghana’s construction industry for long-term sustainability.
