The Governing Council of the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) has reaffirmed its resolve to enhance border security and strengthen national safety systems. The assurance was given by the Council Chairman, Rev. Stephen Wengam, during a working visit to the Kotoka International Airport (KIA) in Accra.

Rev. Wengam revealed that a new initiative will soon be launched to rally support from both the public and private sectors, aimed at boosting the operational capacity of the GIS. He stressed that government funding alone is no longer sufficient to address the Service’s growing logistical and infrastructure demands.
Revenue Contribution and Operational Challenges
Welcoming the delegation, Deputy Commissioner of Immigration Dr Noah Ahomka Yeboah, Regional Commander at KIA, underscored the Service’s crucial contribution to national revenue mobilisation. He also highlighted major obstacles affecting their efficiency, including: Limited office space, Inadequate residential facilities for officers, Shortage of vehicles, and Insufficient border control equipment and tools
- Staff Durbar and Safety Concerns
As part of the visit, a staff durbar was held to provide officers the opportunity to directly engage with Council Members and present their concerns.
Addressing the durbar, Comptroller-General of the GIS, Samuel Basentale Amadu, spoke strongly against the recent killings of Immigration officers in parts of the country. He appealed for peace and urged residents in volatile areas to cooperate with security agencies to ensure stability and protection of national borders.
