The management of GIHOC Distilleries Company Limited (GIHOC) has dismissed reports circulating in sections of the media suggesting that the company has “abandoned the 24-hour economy initiative” or “urged the government to clamp down on alcohol imports.”
In a statement issued by the Media and Public Relations Unit of the company on Wednesday, October 16, 2025, GIHOC described the publication as “false, misleading, and completely out of context,” insisting that the report misrepresented discussions held with the Parliamentary Select Committee on Labour and Employment on Wednesday, October 15, 2025.
“No statement was made in the manner reported. Management only addressed specific questions about the company’s present state of operations and discussed ongoing efforts to strengthen operations and improve efficiency,” the statement clarified.

According to GIHOC, at no point during the engagement did the Acting Chief Executive Officer or any member of management suggest that the company was disengaging from the 24-hour economy initiative.
“Any publication that says that is false, completely out of context, misleading, and deceptive,” the company added.
GIHOC reaffirmed its full support for President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s 24-hour economy initiative, stating that it continues to implement measures to enhance production capacity, boost competitiveness, and contribute meaningfully to national industrial goals.
The statement emphasized that GIHOC welcomes fair competition within the beverage industry and remains focused on innovation, efficiency, and product quality as the basis for regaining its market leadership.

“GIHOC recognises the importance of a healthy and fair market environment. The company is committed to improving its operations to recapture market share and restore its leadership position — not by exclusion, but through innovation, efficiency, and quality,” the release noted.
GIHOC also reaffirmed its dedication to transparency, professionalism, and collaboration with all stakeholders, including the media, and urged journalists to verify information from official sources before publication to avoid distorting public understanding.
The company expressed appreciation to the Parliamentary Select Committee on Labour and Employment for what it described as a “constructive and forward-looking engagement,” reaffirming its commitment to work with Parliament and other institutions toward industrial revitalisation and job creation.
“We trust that the media outlet concerned will, in keeping with its own high professional standards and reputation for accuracy, take immediate steps to correct the unintended misrepresentation and set the record straight for the benefit of the public,” the statement concluded.
