A senior prison officer at Ankaful prison died while attempting to rescue some community members during Saturday’s heavy downpour, which resulted in floods.
The said officer whose name was given only as SCO Lutterodt, was stationed at the main camp of the Ankaful maximum security prison.
He assumed the position of a liaison between the inmates, junior officers and the management last week after the former went on retirement.

The body was found around Nkontrodo a community near the prison farms
About 70 officers of the Ankaful prisons have also been displaced after their official residence got submerged in flood waters following a downpour.
the officer in charge of the main Ankaful prisons, ADP, Patrick Asiedu, regretted the sad event.
He said an assessment of the situation was being conducted, adding that the director of prisons has scheduled a meeting to fashion out immediate support for the affected officers.
He added that the national disaster management organization, nadmo, is liaising with them to assist with relief items.
