Convoy Targeted on Bawku–Bolgatanga Route
The incident occurred on Monday, May 27, 2026, when a convoy transporting about 140 civilians from Bawku to Bolgatanga came under heavy gunfire.
According to the Ghana Armed Forces, unknown gunmen launched the ambush along the Bawku–Bolgatanga route, firing indiscriminately at the convoy.
Troops providing escort protection immediately returned fire, successfully repelling the attackers and preventing further casualties among the civilians under their protection.

Weapons Retrieved During Pursuit
During follow-up search operations, security forces recovered a G3 automatic rifle, two loaded magazines, and 176 rounds of ammunition from a suspect who reportedly fled and sought refuge inside a mosque.
Military sources confirm that ten suspects have since been arrested and are currently assisting investigators as efforts continue to identify and apprehend other persons connected to the attack.
Public Urged to Avoid Interfering with Security Operations
The Ghana Armed Forces has cautioned residents in affected communities to avoid engaging or obstructing security personnel during ongoing operations.
