Three armed robbers have been convicted and sentenced to a combined 19 years in prison by the Ho Circuit Court for their roles in a brazen daylight robbery.
The convicts, 22-year-old Mercy Sokpe, Atsu Kamasa, 25-year-old and 19-year-old Godfred Dzidonu, were found guilty of robbing 21-year-old Elijah Torgbedzi of his iPhone 6s, valued at 700 Ghana cedis, near the Ho central market on May 4, 2025.
The scheme began when Mercy Sokpe requested to borrow the victim’s phone for a selfie. As she distracted him, her accomplices suddenly attacked the victim with scissors and snatched the phone.
As the robbers fled, the victim raised an alarm. Godfred Dzidonu was quickly apprehended with the phone in his possession and handed over to police. Further investigations led to the arrest of the other two suspects.
On May 9, the three were arraigned before His Honour Osman AbdulHakeem at the Ho Circuit Court. All pleaded guilty. They were sentenced to three years each for conspiracy to commit robbery, while Atsu Kamasa and Godfred Dzidonu received an additional five years each for the act of robbery.
Police are urging the public to remain vigilant and cautious, especially when approached by strangers in public spaces.
